Coghlan's Magnesium Fire-Starter

Coghlan's Magnesium Fire-Starter

Price: £6.50 (Including VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

A simple striker is set into a block of Magnesium

A Coghlan's Magnesium Fire Starter is a practical and useful fire-source that could find a place on any field trip or in any emergency kit-pack. The fire starter uses magnesium as a flame source of 5400 Degrees F; the magnesium is shaved off using a saw or knife blade and a spark from the embedded striker is applied to the magnesium dust. One block should provide sufficient shavings to start hundreds of fires.

Full directions are on back of the card.

Fire Tips:
It's important to carry a good fire starter. It's also important know how to use it and to keep a watchful eye open for good tinder and to carry some with you at all times, this must be bone dry. It is also important to use your fire starter at home before you venture outdoors.
Try the cotton ball and Vaseline tinder method Vaseline is a derivative of Petrolium Jelly and so burns well - simply get a cotton ball and some Vaseline; work some Vaseline into the cotton ball, (no need to over-soak it). You'll need to pull the cotton ball apart a bit to expose the individual threads and throw a spark from a fire-steel. The Vaseline soaked cotton ball will catch fire quickly and then burn long & hot. Easy!
