The Cowdray Shirt

The Cowdray Shirt

Price: £87.50 (Including VAT at 17.5%)

Quantity:

Designed by our Instructors and built to our exacting specifications; exclusive to Red-Deer Outdoors Greencraft Instructors

This project really has been a long time in the making and we are extremely proud of this fine garment; we wanted to produce a practical woollen outer shirt that could also be used as a warm insulation mid-layer as part of a layering system. We were increasingly worried about deteriorating quality control issues and the dreadful carbon foot-print of existing traditional woollen shirts available to the market....some of which (for instance) are made in China, shipped to NZ and then shipped to the UK before sale; this seemed a heavy price for a shirt made of wool - especially when we have an abundance of the stuff here in the UK. Our woollen shirt is made from 100% British Wool grown by free-ranging sheep (unusual huh?) that can be seen happily passing their time away on beautiful Welsh hillsides. The wool is spun into yarn and then woven into fabric by a team of just three people - all skilled artisans - in a proper traditional woollen mill, by a gurgling stream, that has been making woollen fabrics for 300 years (since 1785).

The Cowdray shirt proudly bears the name of Cowdray Estate by kind very permission of Lord and Lady Cowdray and commemorates our relationship with this glorious piece of countryside, home to many of our bushcraft courses.

This is a traditional woollen outer-shirt with all of the important features you'd expect to find; large secured pockets, enlarged collar, scooped/extended back over-sized buttons and generous cut. Produced in soft natural autumnal-woodland shades. The Cowdray shirt will breathe with you when you are exerting yourself, and the natural oils left in the wool will shed light showers; warn under a G-1000 or Ventile smock the loose weave will keep you snug, warm and dry.

Absolutely ideal for deer-stalking, bushcraft and indeed all rugged outdoor use; warm and comfortable, perfectly at home in the woods and equally so in your local pub!

Proudly British made from British materials by British people; low carbon footprint (this shirt has not come all the way from NZ!!)

The Gruinard Shirt

Sorry, we're now very low on stock - further Gruinard shirts are being made now. Please call for sizing and current availability!

Designed by our Instructors and built to our exacting specifications; exclusive to Red-Deer Outdoors Greencraft Instructors; conceived by our Instructors following our courses and expeditions to the West-Coast Highlands.

This is the second of our woollen shirt designs to be completed and we are again extremely proud of this fine garment; we wanted to produce a practical woollen outer shirt that is slightly more 'ruggidised' than our 'Cowdray' shirt with more weather-proofing features but that could also again still be used as a warm insulation mid-layer as part of a layering system.

The Gruinard shirt was conceived as a result of our extended periods of time spent out on the Hills of highland Scotland on bushcraft courses and deer-stalking.

This is a traditional woollen outer-shirt reinforced in vital areas by Ventile panels and with all of the important features you'd expect to find; large secured pockets, enlarged collar, scooped/extended back over-sized buttons, generous cut and produced in autumnal natural shades. The Olive Green Ventile panels are across the yoke, rear of collar, elbows and lower-forearm; Ventile is a British material produced from pure cotton which acts as a durably water-proof layer in vital areas when carrying loads, crawling through heather etc.

The Gruinard shirt will breathe with you when you are exerting yourself, and the natural oils left in the wool will shed light showers; warn under a G-1000 or Ventile smock the loose weave will keep you snug, warm and dry.
The colours in this shirt are very slightly lighter than those of our 'Cowdray' shirt and with more emphasis on tan shades - ideal for the Hills of Highland Scotland - the Ventile also acts as a sharply contrasting colour displacement pattern and works well to help break-up the wearers human-outline.

Warm and comfortable, at home in the woods and equally so in your bothie!

Proudly British made from British materials by British people; low carbon footprint (this shirt has not come all the way from NZ!!)

New colour, just in!

This is the legendary Fjallraven jacket; the original, a simple, rugged, well designed smock-style jacket that has yet to be improved upon. Easily the most functional and best designed jacket in the classic Fjallraven range; the Greenland jacket is produced in Fjallraven's famous G-1000® Poly/Cotton material and is then treated with original Greenland wax to leave a smooth and water-repellent finish that is perfectly dry to the touch.

Probably the most sought after all-purpose Fjallraven jacket; silent in use or easily-proofed for that extra water-shedding , cool in summer, windproof in winter. Two breast-pockets, two waist-pockets with two further, open pockets behind, inner zippered security pocket two way zip, reinforced at shoulders and elbows - an absolute classic! Ideal for stalking, fishing, or as a general outdoor jacket, unobtrusive and fully functional.

We now stock these jackets in Fjallraven's new 'Tarmac' colour.....this name does not do the colour justice, the colour is better described as a dark Olive/Greeny/Grey/Brown with Grey hints....think about winter tree bark and you won't be far off - subtle, low-tone and its perfect for year round use in the UK.
